Los Angeles Annual Events

Tofu Festival


Tofu Fest, Los Angeles, is the festival of various dishes focusing on Japanese and American cuisine. Tofu Fest is held every August in Little Tokyo(LA). The Tofu fest is based on different themes every year. The main attraction of the fest is that the celebrity chef's prepare dishes and show their art of cooking. Later, there is a 'Tofu Eating Contest', in which contestants has to eat a 14-ounce block of tofu in the smallest interval of time, and the prize is given to the winner. There are artists who entertain the visitors from taiko and orchestra, hip hop groups like Blackalicious, dance exhibitions and Taiko drumming. In 2007, this fest will be held on Sat, Aug 11, (2pm - 10pm) and Sun, Aug 12, (Noon - 6pm).

Route 66 Rendezvous


Route 66 Rendezvous, is the largest car show along U.S. Route 66(The Main Street of America, The Mother Road and the Will Rogers Highway) in San Bernardino, California. The racing track is a total of 2,448 miles(3,939 km). This car show held on the third week weekend in September. This car show features several cars having latest models, neon light decorations, loudest engine. The 'Poker Run' is the car rally in which drivers draw cars at random checkpoints and win prizes. The registration of the vehicles begins in early summer.

Hollywood Christmas Parade


Christmas is an important eve for everyone. Hollywood Christmas Parade is a fabulous event to celebrate. This evening event lasts more than two hours, and includes celebrities, marching bands, cars, Santa Claus himself, fantasy floats, and a group of horses, camels, and elephants. The parade traces the route of about 3½-mile. The parade is lively telecast and is watched by millions of spectators from home. The parade leads from Grauman's Chinese Theater and ends at Hollywood High.

Halloween Carnaval


Halloween carnival is the largest costume party of the country. For the carniva Santa Monica Boulevard is closed from La Cienega to La Peer Drive, to welcome the participants and the onlookers. People wear costumes of their own imagination. The queen is crowned. Some traditional folks like pumpkin-carving and children's activities are also sponsored for the fun and enjoy. The celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, from 6pm till Midnight

African Marketplace and Cultural Faire


AMPCF(African Marketplace & Cultural Faire),is a festival for giving honors to African Diaspora art, traditions, contributions, community, culture and business. It is an internationally recognized celebration. AMPCF was founded by James V. Burks(in 1985), who serves on the Board of Directors of African Marketplace, Inc. The visitors seems to be curious to watch the Brazilian Festival offers Doo Wop and Big Band Swing, Square Dance. African Dance workshops; the Ugandan Festival; Blues, Funk, Hip Hop and Reggae; Festivals for Belize, Haiti and the Cameroon; KJLH Gospelfest; a Salsa Festival; the Wholistic Village; South African music and dance; Literary Village; Ethiopian Day; Nation's Cup Tennis Tournament; and Wearable Art Shows. This celebration lasts for three weekends i.e. during August and September. And of course, people enjoy the international foods from different parts of Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. AMPCF offers crafts workshops, music classes, storytelling and a petting zoo for the kids, woodcarvings and masks(african) and literature and much more.
Hours: from Aug 18, 2007(Sat) through Sep 3, 2007(Mon) at 10am - 9pm, daily.

Toyota Grand Prix, Long Beach


Those who have the passion for car racing, must watch the Toyota Grand Prix, the first and the longest event for "car racing", in the World Series. It is an open-wheel race held on a temporary road course. It was started in 1975 as a Formula 5000 race, on the streets of downtown, and later became 'Champ Car event'. The current race circuit for the grand prix is a 1.968-mile road course surrounding the Convention Center of Long Beach, California, forming a loop around Shoreline Drive and Seaside Way. In 2005, anew addition is done to the weekend's activities known as "Drifting", in which participants engage in controlled slides, moving their cars sideways across the track, that showcases the hottest trend in racing.
In 2007, The Toyota Grand Prix long beach will held on Friday, April 13; Saturday, April 14 and on Sunday, April 15.

Los Angeles Marathon


The Marathon is annually held in Los Angeles, since 1986. This large race is a special event for runners and the onlookers. The racing track is 42.195 km - 26.2 miles long. The race starts from the corner of 6th St. and Figueroa St. and passes by Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, the Crenshaw district, as well as many other landmarks.The 22nd Marathon race in LA will be on March 4, 2007, Sunday, at 8:00AM. The runners wear several costumes to cheer the audience. Some runners compete for their hobby, some for awards and some to benefit local charities.

Times Festival of Books, Los Angeles


Those who have the passion for reading and writing, must attend the "Times Festival of Books, Los Angeles". There you can find all sorts of books, of every author, of every publication, of every literature, in every language. You can also buy the new as well as used books of your own taste. There are the books for the visitors of several interests and ages.

Rose Parade & Rose Bowl


Those who love the nature the "Tournament of Roses Parade", was first held on January 1, 1890, California(Pasadena). Hundreds of floats, marching bands, horse-drawn, flower-bedecked carriages are parading through the streets, celebrating a climate that allows roses to bloom. The parade follows the 5.5 mile route, run along Colorado Boulevard, from South Orange Grove to Sierra Madre Boulevards. The parade held on first Monday of January, every year. The parade is lively broadcast on television networks. The parade is usually themed, in 2007, the theme Roses Parade is "Our Good Nature".A special selection committee, honors the 'Queen of the Tournament.'
The parade is followed by the Tournament's other event, the 'Rose Bowl', is the oldest post-season college football bowl game. It has been held at the Rose Bowl stadium on New Year's Day since 1923.The 93rd Rose Bowl Game will be held on Jan 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. (PST). This game is extremely popular among students, alumni, and other fans of the sport, particularly in the Southern and Midwestern parts of the country.

Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty, is a statue given by France to the United States in 1885,during french revolution.It is the symbol of the friendship between two nations.The statue is located in the Hudson River at Liberty Island. The sculptor of the staue was Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and the designer was Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. The choice of copper was done by the Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
The statue illustrates a standing woman, dressed in a flowing robe and a crown. The woman holds a flaming torch high in her right hand and a stone tablet in her left hand. The statue is made of copper and the flame was coated in gold leaf. In the interior of the pedestal the poem is written by Emma Lazarus. There are 25 windows in the crown. The seven rays coming from the Statue's crown represent the seven seas and continents of the world. The total weight of copper in the Statue is 62,000 pounds (31 tons) and of steel is 250,000 pounds (125 tons) and of concrete foundation is 54 million pounds (27,000 tons). the statue was completed on June 1884.

Visiting Hours
The visiting Hours of the island are from 8:30am to 6:00pm. There is no entrance fee to visit the park. You must buy a ferry ticket to get there. Famous Museums in New York

Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum

The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is the largest naval museum in the world. This is the converted form of World War II aircraft carrier. The Intrepid aircraft carrier(1943 to 1974) is a 40,000 ton and 900 foot-long. This museum has a unique collection of aircrafts from WWII to the present, Lockheed A-12 Blackbird. The USS Edson, most luxurious vessel at the Museum, and the USS Growler, only vital missile submarine are the two special warships at the museum. There you can also enjoy a motion-based thrill ride for just $5 extra. The visiting hours are from April to Sept, on Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, on Saturday to Sun, 10am to 6pm. And From October through March, on Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. This museum is located at Pier 86, 46th Street(west) & 12th Avenue, Hudson, NY.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the most leading attraction among museums. This museum exhibits a unique collection of arts including - Ancient Egyptian Vases, Roman Statues, Tiffany Stained Glass and Rembrandt Paintings. Special exhibitions are also organised to attract visitors. The Met Store is an amazing place to buy gifts, stationary, jewelry and other accessories. The tall columns and windows, enormous stairways and water fountains are the part of the museum. You can see a great collection of art from the stone age to the 20th century. The visiting hours are Sun-Thu, 9:30am-5:30pm; Fri-Sat, 9:30am-9pm and monday closed.

American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History is the outstanding science and research institution of the world. The architecture of the museum is unique. There are four floors of gallery space. We can see a huge collection in any discipline, including biology, astronomy, ecology, anthropology, cultural,scientific and historical and much more.The new Rose Center for Earth and Space is seems to be a science fiction story. It has a huge planetarium theater. The theater is decorated from the sphere, models of stars, galaxies and planets hanging from the ceiling, to the gallery's floor. History of the Universe from the Big Bang till now, narrated by Jodi Foster, models of various stellar bodies related to the universe, an ecosystem inside a glass ball and some other space related sights can be viewed in the Rose Center.Visiting Hours are from 10am to 5:45pm, daily. The Rose Center remains open on Fri. until 8:45pm.

Manhattan Island is well known economical district and so it grows higher and higher,since 19th century. There the buildings seems to touch the sky. The major attractions of this island are the 'Rockefeller Center' and the 'World Trade Center'.

Empire State Building


This is the second tallest building in the US, built in 1930.It has 102-storeys and is soothed of at least 200,000 cubic feet of limestone and granite. The lobby is made in rich granite and marble and is furnished with stainless steel. It was declared to be the seven wonders of the world. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon.

The World Trade Center


The World Trade Center was the tallest building of new york and was designed by Minoru Yamasaki (Japanese American architect). It had 110-story twin Towers. But unluckly, the world trade centre was set to fire on February 13, 1975, and after a bombing on February 26, 1993, and was completely destroyed on September 11, 2001, during some attacks. After that the Empire State Building was again declared to be the tallest building in NY.

Rockefeller Center


The largest commercial building in the world is 'The Rockefeller Center'. This complex has 19 buildings and cover the area of 22-acres between 48th and 51st Streets(New York). It is located between 5th and 7th Avenue in the center of Manhattan. The Center was named after John D. Rockefeller Junior. The 'Radio City Music Hall' situated in this complex, is the largest indoor theater of the nation. The 'RCA Building' or commonly known as GE Building is the masterpiece of this center. This building has 71-floors and its height is 872-foot(266-m). The other attractions of the Rockefeller Center are 'statue of Atlas', 'ice-skating rink' during winter, and the plaza having 200 flagpoles at the street, carrying the Stars and Stripes. The Christmas Tree in Rocefeller Center is also the great attraction for the tourists. To see the 'Lightening Christmas Tree' visit the center from the begining of December through Jan 6, 2007. The hours for seeing the tree are daily from 5:30am to 11:30pm.

The other main attraction of newyork is a peninsula situated in Brooklyn(south) named "Coney Island". It lies on a beach on the Atlantic Ocean with Seagate(west), and Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach(east)and the Gravesend(north). There are fun parks, amusement parks, kiddie rides, Luna Park, Dreamland, and Steeplechase Park etc. There are many resorts as well. The amusement park is the major attraction to all kids and adults. The joy rides are also amazing.
There is an interesting history behind Coney Island. Actually, Coney came from dutch language which means 'Rabbit'.Rabbit Hunting was very common those days and thats why the island was named "Rabbit Island", but later its name was changed into 'Coney Island'.

The amusements

  • Wonder Wheel is a ferris wheel with stationary cars and moving cars running on tracks. It is 150 feet in height and 2,000 tons weight.
  • The Cyclone roller coaster is the best wooden roller coaster worldwide.
  • Parachute Jump, The B&B Carousell and the Bumper cars are also the major attractions of thje park.
  • The Polar Bear Club of the coney island is the oldest winter bathing club in the US. From October to April,it is the peakest point for the swimmers to swim and also to participate in the competition.

Coney Island is also known as the New York Aquarium. KeySpan Park is also opened for hosting the Brooklyn Cyclones minor-league baseball team in 2001.This island is also well known for theatres, in movies and songs, in novels and short stories. The 'American Popular Culture' also organizes the annual Mermaid Parade, the Coney Island Museuma and the Coney Island Film Festival. This island also hosts the national volleyball tournament in august 2006.

Central Park New York

Central Park has at least twenty-five million annual visitors.

The Sculptures of the park, including Augustus, Saint-Gaudens and John Quincy Adams Ward, are greatest attraction for the visitors. The first large public sculpture is the'Angel of the Waters' by Emma Stebbins(1873). 'Cleopatra's Needle' is the oldest sculpture.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Perhaps the most famous event in NY region the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" Or Simply "Macy's Day Parade" is held in Morning on Thanks Giving day. The Event is usually 3 hours long and start at 9 AM sharp. The history of event can be traced back to year 1920 when Macy's department employees Parade to flagship store in colorful costumes. Mind Blowing Music, balloons & different art performance are the attraction of parade now a days. You can also catch your some of favorite Stars at the venue. Event is Covered by Television in English & Spanish. Parade stars at 77th Street(Central Park West).This year parade will be held on November 23, 2006 at 9:00 a.m..

Times Square's New Years Eve

31st Dec, the night at which we welcome the coming year with great charm and passion. It is celebrated worldwide, partying until the moment of the transition of the year at midnight. New York City, Edinburgh, Paris, and London are the toppest ones to celebrate the new year in the world. The "ball dropping" of Times Square in New York City, is famous for the New Year celebration. Drinking champagne, fireworks are the major part of the celebrations. People arrive early to enjoy the evening. In some countries, New Year's Eve is a public non-working holiday.

Those who love thier pets, especially dogs must attend the 'Kennel Club Dog Show'held at Madison Square Garden, New York City every year. This show is the America's most impressive dog show. Dogs of various breeds worldwide are brought by the Dog owners. The whole show is live by television. The best Dog is also declared based on their breeds and behaviour. This show will be held on february, 12-13, 2007, Madison Square garden, New york city.

St. Patrick's Day parade

St. Patrick's Day is named after the famous irish saint Patrick. This day is celebrated for the symbol of greenery. On this day, everything seems to be green.It was celebrated on march 17,1766. It is the world's largest cultural event making green worldwide. It is a five day festival. The parade starts from 44th to 86th streets and ends up to 5th Avenue, at 11am on Saturday, March 17th. The parade will also be televised. A unit of soldiers marches at the head of the parade and various Irish societies of the city followed them. Thousands of people attended the Parade including bands, floats, huge cartoon-character balloons, clowns and lots of folk dancers.

Film Festival(New York)

First held in 1962 ,NY film festival is organised by the "Film Society of Lincoln Center". This year festival was held between September 29 and October 15, 2006. Festival is held on several location which includes:
  • Alice Tully Hall on the north of 65th Street(west of Broadway)
  • Avery Fisher Hall(southwest corner at 65th Street & Broadway)

  • Walter Reade and Kaplan Penthouse on 65th Street (Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues)
Tickets are available for between $10 - $40 depending on program. Ticket can also be purchased on phone by paying a small surcharge & on Internet.
